There are several questions we are asked on a regular basis, and I think the most basic thing is that people just don’t understand the concept of a “drinking team.” Here, I try to break it down into the simplest form that even the most simple-minded simpleton that may approach us in a bar could understand.

Q: Are you some kind of a team?
A: We are a drinking team, read the fucking shirt you moron

Q: Are those Soccer/Rugby jerseys?
A: Soccer and Rugby teams are just people trying to make an excuse to drink or trying not to have an alcohol problem. We cut out the middle man and just drink.

Q: Is there some sort of drinking team I haven’t heard of before?
A: You are a drunk fucking unemployed redneck hillbilly without a fucking license much less a car. You rode the bus here today and you are begging for a ride home. Yes, you have never heard of us because you fucking suck at life. Do not talk to me while I am busy drinking or eating.

Q: What is a “Mc Dahgo?”
A: “Dago” is the proper spelling of the common racial slur referring to Italian Americans, pronounced exactly as it is spelled with a long “a” like [dey-goh] (http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/dago). A “Mc” is a racial slur for an Irishman. An Italian and an Irishman started this team, that makes it the McDagos. Now stop FUCKING IT UP!

Q: OMGosh a drinking team? That’s so cool, how do I join?
A: Stop sucking at life, if you are out drinking, you are already half cool enough. Keep drinking with us to prove your merit.

Q: Oh my gosh, I like, totally get it, I’m half Italian and half Irish, how cool is that?
Q: Oh my gosh, I’m Italian and my husband is Irish, how cool is that?
A: IT IS NOT COOL UNLESS YOU ARE BUYING US A DRINK!

so we are in line at the chicken waffles store after the bars close. russ goes the the bathroom, some douche shows up and says hi to the people in front of us, then stands behind me. when russ comes back he starts complaining about “no cutting.” he was being a serious douche about it, I offer to just order what russ wants, russ says he’s just gonna go smoke and isn’t hungry so its all good.

russ leaves and the kid literally just stepped in front of me in line. so I said, look, my friend is gone, you can at least get back behind me. he’s whinin about how he’s been there the whole time. I say to the guys in front of me who always hi five the mcdagos when they see us, but he wouldn’t say yes or no that I was there, also being a douche. I say to the kid, “just get back behind me, ya know you weren’t in front of me.”

he says with the stoopidest, slickest grin on his face, “yea but you aren’t gonna do anything about it”
I twitched, gathered myself and said “don’t tell me I’m not gonna, cause that pisses me off”
he goes “it doesn’t matter, cause I know you won’t” he was so proud of himself for cutting. I storm out of that place and all the homeys in line behind me start yellin “whoa white boy be pissed son”

I tell brian and russ what happened, brian flips and says we need to do somethin. brian and I walk in, go right up to the kid in line, I grab his arm and say, come with me.
he does, that was his first mistake.
then he starts to realize, uh-oh, and resists. we are just inside the door and he is talkin shit to brian and I, we finally get him to “step outside.”

some kid that seemed like maybe he worked there or at least knew the kid was standin next to our shit the whole time. brian got right in his face and said “if punches are thrown, don’t do shit.” the kid was like “ummm, well,” brian just stepped closer in his face, the kid just put his head down and stepped back.

now there was a solid 5 minutes of what I will refer to as “fluffing”… lots of yellin, he kept pushin brian back then I would grab him, then he’d push me off and brian would grab him. but he kept sayin “yo, touch me one more time see what happens,” but he didn’t do anything.

finally, my boys had had it, he was standin square in front of me with his legs spread after pushin me, bein a complete douche. so I kicked him in the balls, immediately followed by a punch to the face.
there was like 3 awkward seconds, I was expecting retaliation, my next punch was ready, brian was ready to completely level him. he sorta turned his attention to just brian, realizing he better stop talking to me because I kick him in the nuts when I’m unhappy.

they started this 1-on-1 talk about goin out behind the building. Another minute of brian waiting for the kid to fight back so he could destroy him, I was pushing him away from brian telling him “look, kid, I’m done, I’m over it, just get inside and order your food” but he wouldn’t back down.

I tried to get the chubby kid who had referred to him by name so I know he is sorta the kids friend, hey, get your friend inside, this is done, we’re leaving. thats about when the other people he said hi to in line came outside and said somethin about “hey, you made us lose our spot in line man” brian’s gf amy said “you guys better just shut the fuck up.”

eventually a cop car pulls over right where we are. I grab brian, pull him away for a sec and say “dude, cops are actually here now, I’ve already kicked him in the nuts and punched him, I’m pretty happy with how this is going, lets get the fuck out of here.” brian agrees, by the time I finish saying this 2 more cop cars pulled up and there are 6 cops walking up to our scene. I’ve got brian wrapped up, he’s still talkin shit, the kid is still offering to go behind the building 1-on-1 now that the cops are here. I just walk by the cops pulling brian saying “this is done, nothing happened, we’re ok, we’re leaving.” We just walked down a side street and left

then when I drive back to drop russ off at his car, we see what seemed like the same 3 cop cars STILL at the chicken waffles store plus a fire truck. the cops STILL had closed that block of monroe at 5am.

“So one time, Dom kicked some douchebag in the balls so hard the fire brigade had to be called….I’m just sayin”

The moral of the story here is don’t get between a fat man and his chicken & waffles!

Smooth drive, made it way ahead of schedule, thanks to driving in the 80s most of the way, hit 103 on some of the hills. Speeding ticket 9 miles away from our destination for going 70 in a 55. Fack PA!

Found a nice little bar, Adams Apple to get started at. We violated half the dress code and most of the house rules with our jerseys and talking loudly about sex, drinking and rock and roll. Couple beers, then I parked in a garage and we head in line, which had grown faster than we expected.

Spent over an hour standing in the mist, just above freezing. People are saying its sold out, 30 people in front of us in line most of them in need of tickets. Doors finally open and the bouncers start doing some shady shady “sales” in the hallway. We manage to get some of the last stubs and get into the show.

Dying for some Jameson to warm up after standing in the cold… “oh I’m sorry, this is PA and we are bass ackwards. All ages show means we can’t serve booze. Want some water or red bull?” Jaws drop. Kids lighting up cigarettes all over the place but a 25 year old can’t get a flippin beer? Fack PA.

We find a nice person to call me when the opening band is done then find the owner and get special stamps for re-entry. We run past the hundreds of people still in line back to the Adams Apple. 2 Giant double shots of Jameson ensue. Beer, double shots of Wild Turkey, Capn & coke. Phone call comes in that Steel Train is done. double shots of jack then run back to the concert. All in about 40 minutes.

Stuck in the very back because it’s a narrow venue. Rock out hard in the back with a very good buzz kicking in. Merch guys recognize us, talk with Josh and Joe from FYS for a bit. Tell them we will be drinkin downstairs right after the show.

Downstairs we find #9 on tap and $1 mind erasers. We start talkin with the bartender and she gives us a slight variation on the mind eraser for free. Then we do Dead Jean Bennet Ramsey shots for next to nothing. Josh from FYS shows up, we drink and talk with him for a while. He goes back to the van with his band, we move on down the street.

Sweet cover band Shots McGee is playing at Phyrst. We start rockin out up front, takin pictures, drinkin green beer that is on sale (duh) for $4 pitcher. Rest of the crowd starts dancing with us, band gets really into it. Lots of video and pictures taken:

Finally make our way to a hotel after things close, pass out. Next morning, majorly hung over. Breakfast at the Waffle Shop, I think we were legally dead for a few minutes before the food showed up. This was followed by a very groggy 3 hour drive to Pittsburgh. Fog and stupid mountains all over the place. At least we had some awesome chili cheese dogs at a gas station called Sheetz. Billboard advertising actually werks.

Millvale on the outskirts of Pittsburgh is just as shitty as the rest of Pittsburgh. “Pittsburgh, We Only Live Here Cause We Have To.” We ripped on the city and the whole state in general for about 4 hours. Started drinking as soon as we showed up at some dive bar. Moved down the street looking for food but everything is not just closed, buildings are boarded up! “Pittsburgh, Hope You Aren’t Hungry.” “Pittsburgh – Sorry, We’re Closed.” “Pittsburgh, Where We Are Still Workin On Street Lights.” What a shithole.

We found a great place called Grant Bar and Lounge, great food. Made our way to the show only to find out it had started raining pretty hard. We try all sorts of doors to get into the venue. Walking around the building, through a maze, we go through a very narrow corridor. Find an unlocked door that says “SHOWER.” We walk in and a guy walks buy in just a towel. WTF??? Out another door we go outside again, take a flight of stairs down to a new door. Finally we are into the show and its already packed cause doors opened earlier than we thought. Oh well, at least they have a separate area in the back serving booze.

Turns out Steel Train is really good. FYS had to play without Dan, a lead singer, since he is in the hospital. The other singer was runnin out of breath trying to sing all the words. They did a short cover just so they keyboard player could sing one song, they still had a good time, but I think they are gonna have to drop off the tour after a few more shows. Bayside was really amazing. Anthony seemed way more into the crowd than usual. Unfortunately they were not headlining and did not play an acoustic tune, but everything they did play was flippin amazing!

Decided to have one more beer at the dive bar I parked in front of before the drive back. It started snowing almost right away. Roads were a mess, finally had to slow down. I almost got us killed more times than you can shake a stick at because I was impatient and really wanted to make it to Buffalo in time for Mighty Taco. That failed.

Overall an amazing 2 days, full of awesome and win. More people need to share in this stuff with us to truly understand how amazing we are.

The 2008 “Original” Rochester Pub Crawl was a great success. The 14th annual “Walk” was much smaller than in recent years due to no info being available online. The organizers changed sites for whatever reason, pics and info for next year will eventually be available at RochestersOriginalPubCrawl.com. Can’t wait to do it all again in April for the MS Pub Crawl.

Check out all the pics from the day/night, good stuff.

Jeremiah’s
Things got started at noon at Jeremiah’s. We were here til almost 3 and fell behind the crowd a bit. Many beers were had, some really delicious food helped slow the absorbtion of a long day o’ drinking ahead.

Monty’s Krown
Way too small even with a smaller crawl than usual. But they have Genny Cream Ale so Dominator was particularly happy. We cut out of here after 1 beer.

Spike’s
Dirty and ugly as usual, but, ummmm, well, we got 3 very different beers leading to a great picture.

JD Oxford’s
Big place but a poor layout at the bar led to major cramping getting a drink, we were squeezed in pretty tight and cut out after one beer again. This got us ahead of the bulk of the crowd.

Enright’s Thrist Parlor
Nice until its crowded, this was another 1 beer stop helping us stay ahead of craziness.

Avenue Pub
Played some pool, won on a spectacular bank shot. Some of us enjoyed a water to keep things from getting rediculous, the ladies did a strawberry shortcake shot. I heard it was tasty.

Sports Page
Things were pretty normal for the Sports Page. People site quietly and watch sports on TV. Once more drunk people showed up things started getting silly. There was a lady who at first glance dressed and acted like she was a 20-something, dancing like she’s at Syxx, grindin her junk on some guy to some pop song despite the fact she was at least 40. Then Michael Jackson came on, she continued grinding, gettin low, too low and not able to get up sometimes. We were disappointed since she was doing this right next to our table. We decided she had to be made aware how badly she was failing. Dom gave her the big thumbs down. She tried doing some Beat It dance, but continued to fail, so she went back to slutty dancing. Good for her, sticking with what she knows best.

Acme
Yay, finally awesome food time. We were pretty starved by this point. While waiting for the large ‘roni we ordered, someone gave Hero her almost full basket of tater tots which we devoured like malnourished african villagers. We enjoyed some great Railbender beer while eating lots o’ greasy pizza. Hung out here for a while as the Crawl caught up with us.

O’Callaghan’s
We attempted to recreate the DJBR shot again, it was more fail.We dominated the juke box before the crowd showed up and rocked out pretty well.

Woody’s
Now things are startin to get pretty drunk. We hit the mini mart outside of O’Calls and smuggled some beer into Woody’s. It was pretty late and this was the last official stop on the crawl, but we had 2 more bars to visit. Some Man showed up. The gang acted pretty belligerent in the back while some mediocre band played.

Bug Jar
Crucifist played some metal, Russ and Dom rocked out absurdly hard, Erin danced too. The band harassed Marcy and Scott for being lame and just sitting around.

Damien’s
Mesh, good cover band, more serious dancing. People were just sittin around until the McDagos ran in at 1:30am and torn things up in front of the band. Suddenly people came out and danced, but not too close to us since we were gettin pretty crazy. The Band was psyched to see us gettin into it, we kinda made there night.

The Walk (home)
This was an adventure in itself. No one was in any condition for driving. Russ just couldn’t overcome his desire to be face to face with the ground. Dom finally managed to get pictures before helping him up.

‘Twas a fun night for the McDagos. Bars had a bigger crowd than usual but that is to be expected from college kids being home for the holidays. We enjoyed many a 2 for 1 beer at O’Callaghan’s (especially their chalk board saying “Hope you had a merry Christmas and we hope Santa brought you everything you wanted. If he didn’t, fuck him. Have a beer and wait til next year”). We had some good times with “Yet to be nicknamed” Erin and rocked out to some great music (Flogging, Dropkick, Bayside) before heading over to Acme, where Stu joined and we ate some deeeeeelicious pizza. Sorry for the lack of pictures, we will be back on our game soon, likely thursday. A good night but certainly nothing out of control like last week where I blacked out and lost my cell phone and camera’s SD card

Happy ChristmaHanukKwanziBoxiVus Everyone!

On one of the biggest amateur drinking nights of the year, the professionals of McDagos Drinking Team were out in full force. The night kicked off well at O’Callaghan’s with some simple shots, then seemingly endless pitchers of Magic Hat #9. We were joined by Tim S and his gang as well as some of Russticles’ friends. We managed to squeeze in some excellent rock from Bayside, Flogging Molly and Dropkick Murphys in a night otherwise dominated by hiphop.

Late in the evening we made our way to Damien’s Pub where after a long wait and multiple attempts, I managed to pay $9 for 2 beers. It wasn’t all bad though, thanks entirely to an incredibly drunk Lisa and her sister Gina, who tried to keep Lisa in check by making out with her and squeezing her boobs. Sadly, I was not quick enough with the camera to capture that magical moment, but check out the gallery of last night to see the rest of the fun.
